The way I got 100 subs in one day was staying active on another person's youtube channel, I wasn't asking for any special treatment however because I genuinely liked his channel and content therefore staying active, he decided to give me a shout out so overnight I gained an extra 100 subs and it is still rising.
Lesson to be learned here is don't think the attention will just come to you with good content, you need to put into the Youtube community as much as you expect to get back yourself.
I have never done the sub for sub thing - and now I have 130 subs who stay active on my channel and genuinely bring up my viewer count which to me is worth more than subs.
