At the moment I use hd pvr 2 gaming edition to record and have movie studio 13 pro which is cheaper version of Sony vegas and they seem to work like a charm. For me I think the best combo will probs be an elgato hd 60 with sony vegas 13.

Yes ,but,OBS is free and Elgato HD 60 Pro is about 200$ :D

haha that is very true xD I haven't used OBS that much so not sure how good it is , but a lot of people say it is worth it , I would say its fine to use

I also use the Elgato HD for all of my recording, both console and pc. For the editing I use Sony Vegas Pro 13, but I don't know any free alternatives for either. I suggest offering the money on the Elgato, since it is very useful, in terms of the output quality and how easy it is to setup and use, whether you wish to record your pc or console gameplay:) I have been extremely happy with my purchase!
